Small children are particularly at risk. Note: The interior lamps will illuminate. Illuminated entry The interior lamps and puddle lamps if equipped illuminate when the Integrated Keyhead Transmitter is used to unlock the door s.

This mode disables the keypad for one minute and the keypad lamp will flash. Use of these systems may result in vehicle starting problems and a loss of security protection. Page The theft indicator will flash every two seconds to act as a theft deterrent when the vehicle is armed. Automatic disarming The vehicle is disarmed immediately after the ignition is turned to the on position.

Failure to follow these instructions may interfere with the front passenger seat sensing system.

Power recline if equipped Press the control to recline the seatback forward or rearward. Store the head restraint in a secure location, such as the trunk of the vehicle. Split-folding rear seatbacks One or both rear seatbacks can be folded down to provide additional cargo space.

Unless serviced, the system may not function properly in the event of a collision. How to disengage the automatic locking mode WARNING: Ford Motor Company recommends that all passenger safety belt assemblies and attaching hardware should be inspected by an authorized dealer after any collision to verify that the automatic locking retractor feature for child seats is still working properly. Page Safety belt warning light and indicator chime The safety belt warning light illuminates in the instrument cluster and a chime sounds to remind the occupants to fasten their safety belts.

The Belt-Minder feature will not activate. Airbags offer greater protection when used with safety belts. Do not modify the front end of the vehicle. Front airbags are designed to activate in frontal and near-frontal collisions, not rollover, side-impact, or rear-impacts unless the collision causes sufficient longitudinal deceleration.

When the passenger airbag off light is illuminated, the passenger side airbag may be disabled to avoid the risk of airbag deployment injuries. Page SRS, its fuses or the seat cover on a seat containing an airbag. Contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible. Do not touch them after inflation. If the air curtain is not replaced, the unrepaired area will increase the risk of injury in a collision.

Also see Airbag supplemental restraint system SRS in this chapter for special instructions about using airbags. Page Accident statistics suggest that children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in a front seating position. Page Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA provides education and training to ensure that all children ages 0 to 16 are properly restrained in the correct restraint system.

Page Children 12 and under should be properly restrained in a rear seating position whenever possible. If all children cannot be seated and restrained properly in a rear seating position, properly restrain the largest child in the front seat. Make sure the tongue is securely fastened in the buckle.

Position the child safety seat in a seat with a combination lap and shoulder belt. Attach the tether strap if the child seat is equipped.

Refer to Attaching child safety seats with tether straps later in this chapter. See Attaching child safety seats with tether straps and Recommendations for attaching safety restraints for children in this chapter for more information.

To avoid risk of injury, occupants should only use seating positions where they are able to be properly restrained. Refer to Recommendations for attaching child safety restraints for children in this chapter. Locate the correct anchor for the selected seating position. If your child restraint system is equipped with a tether strap, and the child restraint manufacturer recommends its use, Ford also recommends its use. Child booster seats The belt-positioning booster booster seat is used to improve the fit of the vehicle safety belt.

Page To improve the fit of both the lap and shoulder belt on children who have outgrown child safety seats, Ford Motor Company recommends use of a belt-positioning booster.

Move a child to a different seating location if the shoulder belt does not stay positioned on the shoulder during use. Ford Motor Company recommends that all safety belt assemblies in use in vehicles involved in a collision be replaced. Department of Transportation-Tire quality grades: The U.

Department of Transportation requires Ford Motor Company to give you the following information about tire grades exactly as the government has written it. You are strongly urged to buy a reliable tire pressure gauge, as automatic service station gauges may be inaccurate.

Ford recommends the use of a digital or dial-type tire pressure gauge rather than a stick-type tire pressure gauge. Page Tire Inflation Always inflate your tires to the Ford recommended inflation pressure even if it is less than the maximum inflation pressure information found on the tire. Page For your safety, tires that are damaged or show signs of excessive wear should not be used because they are more likely to blow out or fail. Page The tire pressure sensors mounted in the wheels originally installed on your vehicle are not designed to be used in aftermarket wheels.

Page Rotating your tires at the recommended interval as indicated in the scheduled maintenance information that comes with your vehicle will help your tires wear more evenly, providing better tire performance and longer tire life. These ratings are listed in the following chart. The tire suppliers may have additional markings, notes or warnings such as standard load, radial tubeless, etc. Page 4. Maximum Load Single lb kg at psi kPa cold: Indicates the maximum load and tire pressure when the tire is used as a single; defined as two tires total on the rear axle.
